The Coylet Inn
The Coylet Inn sits on the shores of Loch Eck. Built around 1650 it was originally a coaching house known as the Loch Eck Inn. Situated in a beautiful location about an hour's drive from Glasgow it's as popular with tourists today as it was with travellers in the 17th century. It's also believed to have at least one ghostly inhabitant.
The Blue Boy
The ghost of Coylet Inn is said to be a young boy in bedroom number four who walks the inn at night. His exact identity is unknown but some stories say he was staying at the inn with his mother, others that his family then ran the inn. One night he apparently walked in his sleep - all the way down the the loch where he drowned. His spirit now haunts the inn searching for his mother and leaving watery footprints where he goes.Other ghostly phenomena reported at Coylet Inn include sudden temperature changes and objects being mysteriously moved from one person to another. Could this latter activity perhaps be the work of a little boy in a playful mood? Or of a desperate lost soul trying to get attention?
In 2005 a Ghostfinders Scotland investigation recorded a variety of "light anomalies" as well as possible voice activity.
The story of the ghost of the Coylet Inn formed the basis of the 1994 movie The Blue Boy starring Emma Thompson.
