Edinburgh
Edinburgh is the historic capital city of Sotland which has seen more than its share of history, not all of it pleasant. Once known as Auld Reekie because of the smell it's been home to Burke and Hare and the real life inspiration for Doctor Jekyll and Mister Hyde. It's hardly surprising that Edinburgh has the repuation of being the most haunted city in Scotland - perhaps in the whole of Britain.Today Edinburgh is a thriving cultural hub which is home to authors as diverse as J.K.Rowling and Ian Rankin. The city hosts the annual Arts Festival and less formal Fringe; if you've never visited the latter then I can assure you that it more than deserves a place in any directory of the strange, unusual and weird!
Edinburgh is also the city that I now call home, so I make no apologies for devoting more space to it than to other equally interesting places in Scotland.
